Corlea Burnett is an emerging writer whose lifelong love of storytelling began with weekly visits to her hometown library, where a thoughtful librarian, Mrs. Gray, always seemed to know the next book she would cherish. After a career in teaching and counseling, Burnett shifted her focus to writing full time and is actively pursuing publication.
Drawing from her experiences growing up in the American South during the 1960s, Burnett’s debut work of fiction explores the era’s cultural landscape through a contemporary lens. She is a member of the Writers League of Texas, the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, and the Wimberley Literary Salon, where she continues to develop her craft and engage with the literary community.
Burnett resides in the Texas Hill Country. When she is not writing, she enjoys spending time outdoors—often hiking mountain trails, which she considers an essential source of creative inspiration.

Agents and Editors Conference by the Writers' League of Texas.
Corlea Burnett connected with fellow authors and members of the Texas literary community at the 2026 Agents & Editors Conference hosted by the Writers’ League of Texas. She attended sessions led by debut and established authors, gained insight into the publishing industry, and had the opportunity to pitch her fiction to literary agents and publishing professionals. The conference gave her insight into publishing and marks another step toward becoming a published author.

Yoknapatawpha Writers’ Workshop
Each summer, Texas Hill Country author Corlea returns to Oxford, Mississippi, for the Yoknapatawpha Writers’ Workshop. The traditional creative writing workshop gives her valuable feedback and a fresh perspective on her fiction. After four summers, she has made lasting friendships with fellow writers and seen meaningful growth in her writing. Reconnecting with longtime college friends who live in Oxford makes the annual workshop a favorite tradition. The experience inspires her as she develops her voice and craft as storyteller.

Texas Hill Country author and fiction writer Corlea Burnett was invited to read one of her short stories at the Wimberley Literary Salon. Her story about the meanest teacher from her middle-school years drew some of the biggest laughs of the evening. Burnett believes everyone has at least one teacher they remember for all the wrong reasons. The reading was a meaningful opportunity to share her work with other readers and writers in the local literary community, while continuing to build confidence in her voice as an emerging author.
